Stephen T. Bowling (Steve)

Austin Criminal Defense Attorney

Austin Criminal Attorney Stephen T. Bowling

Attorney Stephen T. Bowling is a Texas native, growing up in South Texas. His career began in the United States military, serving in the Navy from 1997 through 2007. He spent five years as a technician and operator of the Tomahawk Missile System on the USS Stout, an Arleigh Burke Guided Missile Destroyer. After life on the ship, he attended the Navy’s Military Police School, where he served as a Patrolman, Field Training Officer, Assistant Watch Commander, and finally as Watch Commander at Naval station Ingleside.

He credits this time in the armed forces as his inspiration for pursuing the practice of law. Toward the end of his three-year assignment, he was arrested in Corpus Christi, Texas. While his case was dismissed, the arrest alone led to professional consequences. This incident has made him keenly aware of the flaws in police training and how they lead to mistakes, false arrests, and otherwise innocent people being found guilty of offenses they never committed.

Steve received a B.S. in Business Management from Liberty University in 2006. After receiving his Master’s Degree two years later, he chose to attend the University Of New Hampshire School Of Law. During law school, Steve was a member of the University of New Hampshire Criminal Clinic, an organization which allowed students to represent clients facing both misdemeanor and felony-level charges. Steve represented clients facing a wide range of accusations, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon to driving while intoxicated. He served under the Honorable Charles S. Temple, who is now a New Hampshire Superior Court Judge.

During Steve’s final semester, he worked for the Law Office of Lanham Blackwell in Bangor, Maine, where he handled a variety of cases ranging from Personal Injury and Mass Torts to Criminal Law matters.

Attorney Bowling graduated from law school with honors cum laude, and after graduating followed his dream of starting his own firm. In November of 2013 he opened the doors of his first law firm, where he focused primarily on DWI cases because it is one of the only offenses that is based on an officer’s opinion. Between the natural human condition of confirmation bias, standardized field sobriety tests that are set up to make someone fail, and lab standards that are inadequate to guarantee accuracy, he believes that too many people are falsely convicted. He also handles controlled substance charges, including marijuana offenses, as well as family violence charges, weapon crimes, and probation violation.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, three kids, dog, and two cats, as well as staying active by running, and swimming.
